Home to more than 100 lakes and streams as well as being one of the premier skiing destinations in California, Mammoth Lakes really lives up to its name as the perfect place for a vacation The town is located just north of Owen Valley in a volcanic area with many hot springs and extensive opportunities for hiking. There is an extensive listing of activities for every season of the year. Hotels, bed and breakfasts as well as ski resorts are in abundance offering a wide variety of lodgings for every visitor.

If you visit during the summer, you will be able to visit the Devil’s Postpile National Monument. This destination is located at 7600 feet above sea level and is one of the best scenic views in the country. See cascading Rainbow Falls that are over 100 feet high and pristine mountain settings. A shuttle bus will take you from Mammoth Lakes to the monument where you can camp overnight or start on a hiking trip to the High Sierra backcountry. Of course, you can stay for a while and go back to the town again.

The Hot Creek Geologic Site is a location of natural wonder with hot springs, unusual formations and craters. The site is open every day from sunup to sundown but swimming is not permitted because of the heat of the water and the presence of chemicals. There are walkways and boardwalks where you can walk in safety and although dogs are permitted they must be kept on a leash at all times.
