Lancaster, Pennsylvania, located only 70 miles from Philadelphia is steeped in history, as you will see in the many historic sites in the city. When you choose this city as your vacation destination, you will also be able to experience the Amish culture. There are numerous hotels and restaurants to meet your needs and your budget as well as a wealth of activities for every member of the family. Visit the oldest and continuously operating market in the country at the Central Market, where you can purchase the genuine Amish crafts.

The Dutch Wonderland Family Amusement Park will provide you with a fun-filled day. There are all kinds of rides, some of which are for the children only. Duke’s Lagoon is a water play area for everyone and has a seating area for parents and grandparents. Thomas the Tank provides daily entertainment to the delight of all children, as does Storytime With the Princess and the Duke’s Dance Party.

Visit the Amish Farm and House for a view of a typical Amish day. Take a guided horse tour around this 25-acre farm to get a glimpse into farm life. See the animals inside the barn and in the pasture. There are buggy rides available and there is a children’s playground on the site. The farm is open every day throughout the year for visitors.

Another great venue in Lancaster for children is the Children’s Hands-On Museum where they can learn through the interactive play.
