THINGS TO DO

  1. Mount Rushmore National Memorial
"A very impressive piece of work. The new viewing areas and buildings are great and accomadate the number of people much better than the old setup. A must see,I think." - a Yahoo user
  2. Rushmore Borglum Story
"We visited this museum on our recent vacation to Mount Rushmore. I wanted the kids to understand the story behind the monument, and this museum does a good job explaining the history of the sculptor, as well as how he did the monument. The museum has several 'windows' of exhibits; you can move at your own pace, as you take a 'wandstick' that verbally explains each exhibit to you. The museum is large and can take quite a while to see everything; I could see that my kids were getting restless after awhile, so we ended up rushing through some of the later exhibits. There is a nice film at the end that shows some of the footage of the actual making of Mount Rushmore - it is a highlight of the museum and not to be missed. My only complaint - which is why I didn't give this an "Excellent" - is that the wandsticks are hard to listen to sometimes; if you don't hold them just right, they can be hard to hear, and you miss some of the story. Also, there is a LOT of stuff in each window - almost too much - so at times I felt overwhelmed with information. The picture I attached is a famous sculpture done by Guston Borglum - that is out front of the museum - it is of Abraham Lincoln, and kids are welcome to sit on his knee for a picture." - a Tripadvisor user
  3. Everything Prehistoric
"This is a must see museum if you have any interest in Dinosaurs, particularly the T-Rex. Archeoligist affiliated with this museum were the ones who discovered Sue, STAN and Bucky, the three most complete T-Rex bone sets ever uncovered. SD is a goldmine of pre-history, not just a cowboy state." - a Yahoo user
