THINGS TO DO
-
Swan Lake Iris Garden
"We are a military family and have traveled the globe. However, we have not found a place that can compare to the tranquility and incredible beauty of Swan Lake. Unfortunately, my son was only months when we left the area. However, now our son is much older and now we have a daughter too. We look forward to coming back to the Sumter area to show them this true place of beauty." - a Yahoo user

Sumter County Museum
"My son Matthew, who is currently in the 3rd grade, had the wonderful opportunity to go to the Sumter County Museum for their Sumter County Jubilee. The program is a puppet show that tells all about Sumter County's founding and history. Then we were able to tour the Museum and found out that it was owned by the Williams and Brice families, the same family that donated money to USC Columbia to have the football stadium constructed. The tour was wonderful. We saw a double parlor and dining room and a room filled with artifacts from Thomas Sumter including the sword he used in the Revolutionary war, which my son thought was "so cool". Then we went to the Carolina Backcountry Homestead exhibit where they have out buildings, some dating back to the 1800's. The tour guide informed us that they have a class that comes from Sumter High School and learns how to do chores that would have been done on a farm in the 1800's. I hope that program is still around when my son gets into high school. He was so excited. I talked with one of the workers at the museum after the tour was over and she said that they offer self guided tours of the house and that the second floor is open to the public as well. I can not wait to bring my other children back to the museum and spend the day. The best part is there was no charge for admission, so this is a cost effective fun day." - a Yahoo user

Beech Creek Golf Club
"One of the better courses in the midlands. Playing the blue tees even for the novice golfer will make the course a bit more challenging. The front nine, select your clubs wisely for a high soft fade to keep it in play off the tee and never short side yourself around the greens. Score low on the front, for on the back nine the course may get interesting late. If you can play 16-18 at 1 over you have made the cut to put any bets in your pocket. Negatives, watch for hard greens, and course slow to drain after a heavy rain." - a Yahoo user
