THINGS TO DO

  1. The Hotel Providence
"what impressed me the most was the absolute pleasure it was to deal with the staff" - a Tripadvisor user
  2. WaterFire
  3. Museum of Work and Culture
"I visited the Museum with my sister and brother, on Sunday August 17th, 2003. We received a cordial greeting fom the couple who manage the facility. We also spoke at length with the gentleman in charge, who had much to tell us about Woonsocket's rich heritage in Mill History, and Union Development. The exhibit itself, is a walk through history. The prsentation begins in a Canadian home, with a discussion on the pros and cons of migration to the lower 48'. Next, one enters a church; is shown a film depicting Woonsocket's history of life, in the early 1900's. This is followed by an example of actual mill workers, sound included, in different departments; such as the spinning, and weave rooms. I may not have the order right, at this point; but I remember sitting in an actual living room of the workers' home. I sat in a chair and listened to 'Fanny Brice' singing. 'Rudy Vallee' also crooned, to my delight. I am giving away my age at this point, but let me say that this Museum is AWESOME! Parochialism is depicted next, with a presentation from a Catholic classroom. There is also a BOSSES' Conference Room, where meetings were held discussing union workers demands. One of the closing exhibits is a Union Hall where the workers met to plan their strategies. Finally we passed through an exhibit in transition, and exited. All in all, a walk through memory lane, one that I recommend highly! Definitely will make a return trip, this time with my wife! In closing, let me say that coming from a mill city, Fall River Ma., and being a Catholic, parochial school student; (elementary at Notre Dame, and Msgr. Prevost;) (high school at Msgr. Prevost; all in Fall River;) (and college at Stonehill, in North Easton MA.,) certainly made it that much more meaningful. Roger Roy. A.M.D.G." - a Tripadvisor user
