THINGS TO DO

  1. De Soto National Memorial
  2. Ca d'Zan Mansion
"Ca D'Zan was built between 1924 and 1925 for John and Mabel Ringling, and its unique architecture is indicative of a more extravagant time. It is visually stunning and spectacularly set on the Sarasota bayfront. The grounds are large and include Mable's Rose Garden which was completed in 1913 and is now the largest rose garden in the state of Florida. It boasts over 1,000 rose plants. The rest of the grounds are adorned with statues and stately trees. Our friendly tram driver told us that the Banyan trees were a gift from Thomas Edison. The free tram rides are much appreciated to get around this 66 acre-estate! Obviously you'll want to see the circus museum and the art museum while you are there, and make sure you have lunch in the Banyan Cafe. And call ahead for advance tickets to make sure you don't miss out. By the way, Ca D'Zan means "House of John." Some of my interior photos are a bit blurry, because no flash photography is allowed." - a Tripadvisor user
  3. Sarasota Jungle Gardens
"decided to take the family here on a recent vacation. We were looking for something new to do in the area. Not many reviews on it and many locals have never even been to the park. It was a great half day of family fun (we spent about 3.5 hours). My four year old held a alligator, parrot, hand fed flamingo's etc. The grounds are well kept and the shows are staggared nicely so that you can walk around the jungle and then make it back to get a good seat and blend of education and fun filled action. Its not Disneyland and thats a good thing - we went to Disney two days after Jungle Gardens and loved both trips for different reasons. Go if you get the chance." - a Tripadvisor user
