THINGS TO DO

  1. Seatrek Divers
"The operator of the dive shop is an honest person, he and his wife go out of thier way to NOT rip anyone off! The sugar barge is a Florida Gulf dive spot that is now mostly under sand from storms, this changes just as the sand deposits on the beaches change. Also the water off the beaches can become very cloudy when a storm or a front moves through, it takes days of calm weather to clear up enough to dive. I think the dive shop was judged unfairly. They have great prices, will not try to sell you something you dont need, plan GREAT inexpensive trips and will answer any questions honestly. I dive, fish as well as live on this island and have yet to find another dive shop around here that offers what SeaTrek does. Wayne G" - a Tripadvisor user
  2. De Soto National Memorial
  3. Ca d'Zan Mansion
"Ca D'Zan was built between 1924 and 1925 for John and Mabel Ringling, and its unique architecture is indicative of a more extravagant time. It is visually stunning and spectacularly set on the Sarasota bayfront. The grounds are large and include Mable's Rose Garden which was completed in 1913 and is now the largest rose garden in the state of Florida. It boasts over 1,000 rose plants. The rest of the grounds are adorned with statues and stately trees. Our friendly tram driver told us that the Banyan trees were a gift from Thomas Edison. The free tram rides are much appreciated to get around this 66 acre-estate! Obviously you'll want to see the circus museum and the art museum while you are there, and make sure you have lunch in the Banyan Cafe. And call ahead for advance tickets to make sure you don't miss out. By the way, Ca D'Zan means "House of John." Some of my interior photos are a bit blurry, because no flash photography is allowed." - a Tripadvisor user
