OUR TAKE ON LEWES
Lewes vacations are suitable for two kinds of travelers, the ones who love the sun, sea and sand, and the ones who adore historic homes. For the sun lovers, the location of Lewes in Delaware is no less than a blessing. The town is situated at Cape Henlopen where the waters of Delaware Bay mingled with the Atlantic Ocean. There are long stretches of gorgeous beach and, a few yards inward to the land, the travelers, during their Lewes vacations, can explore nature trails and watch bird sanctuaries. If vacationing with the family, a good place to have a picnic is the Cape Henlopen State Park, which has the reputation of being one of the most beautiful parks in the country. For history buffs, the past of Lewes presents a most fascinating story. It was founded in 1631 and when the travelers walk down the present Savannah Road, they will find a multitude of historic homes, such as the Cannonball House, where travelers can find a marine museum. Then, one of the comfortable Lewes accommodations that travelers can find, the Zwaannendael Inn, is a historic home. There is also a Saint Peter’s Church that was built in 1707. This church and other churches have been restored several times to preserve the historical heritage of the people of Lewes.
And if you are staying in Lewes for a while, consider these Delaware vacation rentals that are in the area.
