Fenwick Island, Delaware

Fenwick Island, Delaware Hotels, Things to do, and Vacation Information.

The folks of Fenwick Island boast that they have the best beach in Southern Delaware. Ensconced between the Atlantic Ocean and the Little Assawoman Bay, Fenwick Island is also known as the “Fisherman’s Paradise.” Amazingly, for more than 75 years, the beach has bestowed rich harvests of bluefish, rockfish, and flounder for the fishermen. This means that Fenwick Island vacations are ideal for people who love fishing and the waters. Travelers will find numerous Fenwick Island inns and other accommodations, as well as Fenwick Island restaurants, right on the beach. And the travelers will appreciate the availability of equipment for various water sports. But this town is not just a beach vacation. Fenwick Island has its share of historical events. For example, the long standing boundary argument between the Calverts of Maryland and the Penns of Pennsylvania was settled on Fenwick Island when a stone was erected to mark the boundary that separated Maryland from the lower counties of Pennsylvania (now called Delaware). The stone, which is now called the Fenwick Island Lighthouse, bore the coat of arms of the Penns on its north face and the coat of arms of the Calverts on the south face. For families having Fenwick Island vacations, an interesting place to visit is the Delmarva’s Premier Maritime Museum. Admission is free and the kids will be amazed at the shipwreck exhibits.
