The town of Old Lyme, Connecticut, due to its location near the beach and river and due to its proximity to bigger cities, has a population that is composed of people who work in these cities, such as New London, Hartford, and New Haven. The population of Old Lyme is relatively small but during summer, the number of people in this town swells up due to the almost staggering number of travelers who come to enjoy the Sound View public beach of Old Lyme. The phenomenon of seasonal visitors led to the growth of Old Lyme hotels that offer various vacation packages and travel guides. If this is your first time to have an Old Lyme vacation, it might be more interesting to stay close to the beach and rent one of the numerous summer residences. These residences can be occupied throughout the 14 weeks of wonderful summer. But if the river is more to your taste, then the recommended accommodations is the Bee and Thistle Inn because it borders the Lieutenant River. There is also a lakefront park named Rogers Lake at Hains Park that might interest nature lovers. But Old Lyme is not just about scenic beaches and serene landscapes. It is the center of Barbizon and American Impressionism art and the results of the town’s enthusiasm for the arts can be viewed at the Florence Griswold Museum.
