After settling in one of the Glastonbury hotels, one of the most interesting things that travelers can do when they have Glastonbury vacations is to visit the Historical Society’s Museum on the Green. Of course, all cities in towns have their own museums that are run by historical societies. But what makes the one in Glastonbury interesting? The museum showcased the major events of this town that underwent radical transformations. To illustrate, travelers will immediately know that the tract of land belonged to the Native American Chief named Sowheag. Unlike other Native Americans who fought for their land, Sowheag actually sold the land for 12 yards of trading cloth. Then, in 1636, the first 30 families settled. The boundary of the land expanded until in 1693, it officially became Glastonbury. The museum displayed the life of the early settlers whose major economic means is in agriculture. But this transformed. Thus, the other things to do in Glastonbury are to hunt and locate historical places that bear witnesses to the transformations of this community. For example, Glastonbury was once the location of the George Stocking’s gunpowder factory during the Revolution. Then, from the 18^th century up to the first part of the 19^th century, Glastonbury became a shipbuilding town. But the shipbuilding industry waned and the citizens of Glastonbury embraced other industries. For example, James B. Williams established the J.B. Williams Soap Factory, and together with his brother, he invented and marketed the world’s first commercial soap. They diversified to ink and other products. Today, Glastonbury is the home of various industries that export products, such as cotton, feldspar, paper, airplanes, to the rest of the world.
