Make Barstow California the center of your San Bernardino area Vacation! Between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, the City of Barstow offers the perfect base lodging for a visit to the Mojave Desert. Barstow’s City Chamber, housed in the Barstow Harvey House, is a National Historic Landmark. You’ll find a great information on lodging, dining, and area attractions, as well as the history of Barstow. We enjoyed a visit to the Barstow Route 66 “Mother Road” Museum, right inside. Kids and adults love the historic cars, gas pump and their museum store is your best bet for “Main Street USA” or Route 66 souvenir shopping.
Calico Town is a pet-friendly, kid-friendly Barstow attraction. A fully restored ghost-town, Calico Town was the site of a famous silver strike and state historic landmark. We enjoyed the reenactments of gunfights. After panning for gold, we recommend exploring the cemetery and Silver Mine. You can camp right at Calico Town, or rent the bunkhouse for your entire family!
For couples seeking a romantic getaway, we headed south to Lake Arrowhead’s enchanting Storybook Inn, earning well-deserved awards from Travel Guides and B&B associations. Boasting rooms named after popular stories, we were thrilled with our “Arabian Knights” suite, with a pet-friendly room downstairs. With exquisite on-site dining, the sites are as great as the tastes, and you’ll love the beautifully decorated common areas.
