What’s your ideal California beach? Internationally renowned Malibu Beach ranks atop Travel Guides and Listings for world-class atmosphere, activities, and fun.  Malibu is sometimes called Surfriders Beach.  The lagoon area includes 22 acres of wetland and a beautiful sandy peninsula, jutting out into the Pacific Ocean.  The highly rated Malibu Guides offers great links to choice lodging and dining options, as well as other area beaches.  While Malibu Beach is your best bet for surfing, we preferred the more family-oriented Zuma Beach, just a few miles north.

Zuma Beach is the widest beach in Malibu, offering two miles and a full football field’s length of depth.  A great playground, volleyball courts, and on-site snack bars make it popular with local residents, as well as visitors.  We followed a local tip, leading us to the exclusive Malibu Country Inn, within walking distance of Malibu Beach.  With only 16 rooms available, be sure to reserve your accommodations early!   We found the staff thoughtful and attentive, with many personalized touches inside each room.  It’s a B&B, with a great breakfast included, and a lovely café’ on the premises.

If you’d like some surf action, simply head a few miles south for Westward Beach, on Point Dume State Preserve.  Malibu Activities and Attractions at Point Dume include fishing, scuba, snorkeling, surfing, swimming and hiking.  Point Dume is your best hot-spot for Whale Watching during the December-March California Gray Whale migration.
