Lahaina, one
of Hawaii's
most lovely towns has an interesting history. In the early 19th century it was
an important center for whaling. The town is popularly called as "the jewel in
Maui's crown".
Lahaina’s wonderful beaches are very popular with the
visitors for the sparkling blue water, friendly people, pleasant sun and
stunning scenery. It is also a great place to watch dolphins, sea turtles and
whales with the kids. The ideal time to visit is during summer months.
If you are looking for great
snorkeling opportunities Lahaina beaches are just the
answer. Ka’anapali Beach is undoubtedly one of Maui’s best. At its north end is the famous Black Rock. It
is a great place to snorkel and the fish are so trusting that they come right up
to you. The clear blue water and the numerous water sports activities have made
Napili beach and Kahekili beach popular all over the world. Beside
snorkeling and scuba diving, you can also wind surf, kayak, parasail and Jet
Ski. For those who are just starting, Lahaina has
shallow beaches and experienced coaches. The beaches welcome an equal number of
sun bathing enthusiasts.
For those hungry after a day
out at the beach, most beaches have tables and barbeque pits. All beaches have
fine restaurants, rest rooms, shopping and other amenities. Evening
entertainment options include after-dinner shows like the Old Lahaina Luau and Feast at Lele.
The easiest way to get to
Lahaina is to take a direct flight to Kahului Airport, and then rent a car or take a
taxi for the rest of the way.
