Cotter, Arkansas

Cotter is best known for its freshwater trout, attracting thousands of visitors every year.  North of Branson, Missouri, Cotter is in the heart of the Ozarks, allowing people to vacation in peace and quiet.  Not a popular vacation spot to bring the kids, Cotter is more appropriate for older visitors.  If you plan to visit Cotter, plan to bring a dose of excitement and a hearty helping of fun. 

When it comes to Cotter, its only attraction is fishing, which is not necessarily a bad thing.  The neighboring Shoals Dam is frequented by kids, although kids don't enjoy Cotter's mature atmosphere.  Residents of Cotter say a person's journey here isn't complete without catching local trout, so make sure to catch one before ending your vacation.  If you want to show your spouse a fun, romantic time along the Buffalo National River (a favorite spot to catch trout), rent a jon boat -- just take care not to go too fast.
