One of the best times to have Irondale vacations is in late
September when the whole time celebrates the annual Whistle Stop Festival. It
is a day when families gather together and friends catch up with each other. It
is a family-oriented festival and Irondale vacations are usually family
vacations. In 2008, the festival is slotted on the 27th of September and it is
going to be a day that is full of entertainment for children and adults. There
will numerous kinds of fun rides, such as pony rides, train rides, and gyro
rides. There will be several team games, such as basketball, the community’s
favorite. And there will be over 200 booths that display a variety of items ranging
from toys to handmade items. Throughout this whole day of festivities, there
will be lively background music, such as country, jazz, and rock and roll.
The
best part, at least in the opinion of most folks who have been in Irondale, is
the food. Some will enjoy the simple hot dogs and funnel cakes. Others will prefer
the onion blossom with a Philly steak. And still others will want the finest home
cooking that the town can offer, the food served at the Irondale Café. The café, which was
originally owned by Ms. Flagg’s (author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle
Stop Café) Aunt Bess, was bought by the McMichael family in 1972. Since then,
it expanded and gained reputation in serving the most mouth-watering food
products.
